Borderlands

For my last post, I will be looking at a game series that has always been one of my favourites - Borderlands . There are currently four games that have been released in the Borderlands franchise - Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Tales From The Borderlands. Tales From The Borderlands and Borderlands 2 , though very different styles of game, are my personal favourites based on story, game mechanics and characters. The series are role-playing first person shooter games, set in a space western galaxy, aside from Tales From The Borderlands which was a choose-your-own-story game centered around the Borderlands universe, developed by Telltale Games. Developed by Gearbox Software and 2K Australia , the first game was released on the 20th of October 2009 and being quite honest, I'm really not a fan of the first Borderlands   game. Overwatch

In this week's post, I'm going to be looking at a game which is probably my current favourite - Overwatch. Overwatch is an online team-based first-person shooter developed by Blizzard Entertainment . Released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows, it was hugely successful and is still incredibly popular today. Players choose one of twenty seven 'heroes' from four categories (Offense, defence, tank or support) to play on a team of six. Objectives include capturing map objectives, escorting payloads and accomplishing a specific number of eliminations. I love Overwatch   because there is almost definitely a character, map or objective to suit every player. Unlike my other posts, today I will not be looking at the locations shown within Overwatch alone, though I could easily do this, considering Overwatch 's expansive range of global maps. The Last Of Us

Developed by Naughty Dog , The Last Of Us  is a third-person action-adventure PlayStation game which follows Joel (Troy Baker) and fourteen year old Ellie (Ashley Johnson) through an apocalyptic portrayal of the USA. The games's concept is that Joel has been tasked with escorting Ellie across the country to Salt Lake City, where she can be studied, having being bitten by a zombie but exhibiting none of the usual symptoms. If he succeeds, the entire world may be saved from utter destruction. Set in 2033, twenty years after a fungal-based disease affected 60% of the world's population, morphing them in to cannibalistic, thoughtless zombies, the game has a lovely rawness to it and doesn't ever try to glamourize the events of this world-shaking event. It is honest about the complex relationship between Joel and Ellie and it's evolution throughout the game and has multiple points in the story that look at morality and humanity's reaction to the complete coll

Until Dawn

The first game I am going to be looking at is Until Dawn . Until Dawn is a horror adventure game centred around 'choose your own story' mechanics. Released worldwide in August 2015 as a Playstation 4 exclusive by Supermassive Games, Until Dawn was praised for it's realistic graphics, faltering slightly with it's plotline which many people felt became slightly muddled towards the end as new elements were bought in to play. The plot of Until Dawn follows a group of teens who return to a cabin in Blackwood Pines, Western Canada, after a previous holiday at the cabin led to the disappearance of their friends, Hannah and Beth (Ella Lentini). During their time there, they battle through a number of strange and dangerous occurrences. You control each character separately throughout the game and follow them on their individual paths through the North West Mines, Blackwood Pines and it's accompanying sanatorium.
